Star Wars Cash Grab?

Well I was initially really excited when Disney bought out Lucasfilm and announced that they would be making the next three episodes of Star Wars. I was even more excited when I found out that J.J. Abrams was set to direct the first one, because I love what he did with Star Trek. Now however my faith is Disney is starting to falter after it was announced that Disney in addition to the Upcoming Star Wars trilogy, they are also going to be making a few stand alone spin off films. I am just worried that this will be an unnecessary cash grab, and they just beat the franchise dry. I love original Star Wars so much and I feel like George Lucas has already gone for a cash grab when he made the prequel trilogy, I think Disney has the means to make a great new trilogy, but I would rather that they made a few really good films than lots of sub-par films.

Monthly Movie Look Forward: February

This upcoming month there are a few movies that I am really looking forward to seeing, and some movies I think might be train wrecks on screen.  Without too much of an introduction here are some the movies that I am looking forward to seeing.
Warm Bodies (2013) Poster     First is Warm Bodies, and it even comes out on the first, I can't wait to see this movie.  The first four minuets have been released to the internet, and so far I love it, I love zombie movies, and I am all for changing the rules, which this movie does in really cute ways.  In this movie I am hoping for a cute Valentines day horror flick, I love it when movies combine genres.
Side Effects (2013) Poster     The next movie that looks like it could be good is Side Effects Which comes out the 8th.  I don't know a whole lot about this movie, but hey it has a great cast, and an interesting trailer so I'll see it.
Just in time for Valentines day weekend we have some "bigger" movies coming out including A Good Day to Die Hard, obviously the next Die Hard movie what is this the fifth one I kind of feel like they might be beating a dead horse with five movies, but then again I'm still going to see it.  Of course being Valentines day weekend we are blessed with yet another Nicolas Sparks film Safe Haven.  I have never really been a fan of these kinds of movies, but maybe that is just because I am just perpetually single.  Next is the animated film Escape for Planet Earth, another alien family film, I feel like there have been a lot of those lately.  Finally the movie that I am most looking forward too on this holiday weekend Beautiful Creaters, for some reason I just have a good feeling about this movie.  I don't know much about this movie other than I think it was a book, and I like what I have seen so far in the trailer, it looks like it could be cool.
Beautiful Creatures Poster     That is about it for February, or at least all that I'm looking forward to this next month, once I see them I'll be sure to post my reviews either here or on my youtube page: www.youtube.com/user/ChristinaRachel123

This is very late so lets cut to the chase here are a few of my personal favorite movies of 2012!
Coming in at #10: Prometheus
Prometheus Poster
I know that this movie had a lot of haters but I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a great stand alone film with some really fun Alien Easter eggs.  Also some great performances from both Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender.
#9: The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man Poster
2012 was a great year for super hero's and I really loved this reboot. The original Sam Raimi films were what got me interested in the super hero genera and comics in general, but I loved everything about this movie more. Great villain, Great visuals, and Andrew Garfield was just perfect for that role.
#8: Frankenweenie

This was a great film that reminded me why I love Tim Burton, it was simply classic Burton and I really hope it wins best animated film
#7: Chronicle

Another super hero-ish movie, basically a more realistic take on the whole super hero business.  I was so surprised that I liked this movie normally I'm not into the whole found footage thing but this movie was great.
#6: The Women in Black

I really enjoyed this movie and by enjoyed I mean was scared out of my mind. It was also great to see Daniel Radcliffe in a different sort of role, and he killed it so I hope we will see much more of him in the future.

The Host

The Host Poster     Okay here it is my thoughts on the up coming movie The Host. So I have to admit when I first herd about this book I had absolutely no intention to ever read it just because it was written by Stephanie Meyer, then I found out it was about aliens taking over the world, then I was interested (of course!!).  Let me just start off by saying this book is so much better than the Twilight books so I know that the movie has to be at least a little better than the Twilight books because the source material is so much better.  One of the biggest differences between The Host and the Twilight books is the characters not every love interest in The Host is a perfect pretty boy, all of the characters have flaws big ones too, they are not God like creatures that can do no wrong, they are real people stuck in a horrible situation.  I would somewhat like to attribute this to the fact that Twilight was her first book so she was just getting started, and that is something that I think some people forget The Host was so much better than Twilight so I can only hope that she keeps writing and just keeps getting better and better because I really do think that she has some great stories to tell, and  I do love a good story!  I would also just like to point out that the aliens are the bad guys!! yes! none of the humans try to make out with them, it is quite refreshing.
Max Irons Picture     Now about this movie I am just a little worried that the actors cast in the three main roles Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Able just won't be up to portraying all the inter conflicts that should be going on in this movie, it kind of looks like they just cast pretty boy actors.  That being said I would love to be proven wrong, I really liked this book and I really would love this too be a great movie that would introduce a new audience of primarily young females to the syfy genre.
Jake Abel Picture     Tell me what you think have you read the book do you like it? what do you think of the cast? comment below lets talk about it!

The Host

Just saw the trailer for The Host, this is another story written by Stephenie Meyer, yes the chick that wrote Twilight but hold on this ones really a good book.  This is the story of a post alien apocalyptic world, where the aliens known as "souls" attach to the spinal cords of humans and use our bodies to live their daily lives.  Granted it is again about a love triangle its more like a love square two girls in one body in love with two different guys, but that's not the interesting part.  The reason I loved this book so much was because of the dialog between the girl, Melanie and the alien Sunny who were sharing a body, but not only were they just sharing a body Melanie hates Sunny's existence I really loved the dialog between the two.  My greatest fear with this movie is that they will make it all about the love triangle/ square thing and forget about the great conflict going on inside this girls head.
Anyway the movie is set to be out in spring 2013 this was just a short little post about the trailer I'll have a longer post soon more about my hopes fears and facts about this movie.

Star Wars 8 and 9

Really really excited right now good things are coming for the upcoming Star Wars sequels it was just announced that Lawrence Kasdan one of the original writers from Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, will be back to write episodes 8 and 9.  I was always extremely optimistic about the Disney buy out, because I have a lot of faith in Disney as a company, and this just affirms that fact that they are going to do these movies right and I can't wait!

Fifty Years in the Making

This past weekend I was finally able to see the newest installment of James Bond, and I have to say in my humble and slightly bias opinion is was the best Bond movie to date.  In this movie for the first time Bond is forced to question M as her past comes back to haunt her when someone from her past launches a cyber attack on MI6.  This movie also celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Bond franchise  and they did not disappoint.  not only did this movie give us beautifully incorporated flashes of the past, but it also showed us a new side to Bond that has never been seen before.
Danial Craig and Judi Dench both returned as Bond and M respectively, and this time they were joined by an amazing cast including Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Berence Marlohe, Ben Whishaw, and last but sertenly not least Javier Bardem.  Taking over the reiengs of directer was Sam Mendes who did an absolutely fantastic job.
Right off the bat it was obvious that this movie was going to be very different that any other Bond movie that we have ever seen before, in the first few minutes we see a tension in the relationship between Bond and M, when Bond is forced to leave a friend to die for the good of the mission.  With this one moment we get to see a realism to this world of Bond that we have never seen before in that one moment at least for me it hit me that for the first time in all of these cool action shoot outs people really get hurt and die, so it was really brought to a real level.  Keeping with that theme we then see Bond himself injured, and for the first time ever we see him as a real person that can get hurt, and maybe even die. Then throughout the rest of the movie we see a Bond that has been broken down and he is really spending the rest of the film trying to live up to the legend that he is, but he just can't, on both an emotional level and a physical level.  Craig did an amazing job pulling off this really complicated role of both a strong double O agent as well as a man who knows he is aging and losing his edge, and ultimately falling to an extremely dark place.
I cannot say enough good things about this movie go out and see it even if you have never in your life ever wanted to see a James Bond movie.  This is a beautifully shot film, with all sorts of deep and meaningful character relationships, and of course all the cool James Bonds stuff.  I also would like to point out that this is a truly touching film with a great ending and I can't wait for the next one.
